November 16 Columbia, MS 7th anniversary of the Veterans Picnic Car, Truck and Bike Show. The committee is bring back the traveling Vietnam War Museum, “Through The Eyes.” Adding the museum to the picnic with the  is meant to say “thank you” and to honor all our veterans. The museum will be here November 14th, 15th and 16th, and we plan is to extend the hours of the museum (8am to 8pm) for those who wish to attend in the evening. Also, we are offering time for school field trips on Thursday and Friday. The museum will provide knowledgeable entertainment for the Pine Belt Schools and communities. On Saturday, November 16th, from 9am to 3pm, the Veterans Picnic Car, Truck and Bike Show will join with the museum at the Columbia Water Park. Along with both the museum and car show, the Mississippi National Guard and the Air National Guard will have static displays. This year we will again be helping the Wounded Minutemen of Mississippi organization. They help the members of all branches of service who were wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Our veterans still need your help and will need help for years to come, not only physically and mentally but spiritually. Also, at the same time, November 14th to November 17th, Columbia will be hosting a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The Picnic Committee is hoping with “The Wall That Heals” being in town at the same time as the museum will aid us in raising awareness of our time in Vietnam and help raise funds for today’s wounded veterans who reside in Mississippi. A Fly-Over performed by Mississippi’s Air National Guard for both the picnic and the “Wall That Heals,” is in the planning stage. Also in the planning stage is a tent to be used as a Chapel, and Chaplains for anyone needing someone to talk with. The Columbia Mississippi Family History Center will be presenting Marion County’s Vietnam Veterans Genealogy.
